I like having class specific armor is so, say you are die hard kurzick you can have a kurz set on all your char's and not all have the same armor.

I wish they made the appearance of collector's pieces class specific too instead of 5 million people running around with the same gauntlets, mask of mo zing, eye glasses etc.

It would be even more awesome if I could wear female elly armor on my male elly and run around role playing a cross dresser.

/signed for that idea.

now give me the last 2 minutes of my life back please...

fyi - this would not work in GW1 - the character models and the armor models would have to either be redone completely or new ones added for all the new armors.... far more work than Anet will be putting into this when GW2 is around the corner (er around several more corners actually).

I remember my guild not wanting to play much because it was plain stupid, but it didn't affect me in PvP.

Since the game already support Bandanas and etc with same skin but profession-specific stat, the system is already in place.
And the fact that the skins are already there and don't need to remodel anything.

With it then we can have more mix-n-match options for everyone, in particular Dervishes and Paragons whose armour options are very limited.

Just imagine, Pants for Paragons !!!

As a compromise I'd suggest relaxing the restriction in regards to hand and feet armor. Keep the head, chest and leg pieces as profession-specific (to allow the PvPers easy identification)

Indeed, my necro really fancies some monk sandals, and I don't think her having sandals would cause anyone to mistake her as a necro.

Design warning!

Armor are profession specific for two reasons:
- Fast recognition of characters and main professions.
- Rune limitations to primary attribute.

Armor should ALWAYS go with primary attribute and profession.
If they added a way to change profession, sure! Let people equip the armor of the primary profession after changing it.
Otherwise, not.

Yeah. It would be great to make the character look the way you wanted, but the armor should fit the profession.

(And why are all the male mesmers fat?)

For recognition in PVP just have characters take on their profession glow...like a boss. The basic idea of mix and match armor is to have the skin available for any profession. Of course a mesmer wearing an armor skin like 15k druids would not have the benefits of the ranger armor...the stats would be set for Mesmer armor. As far as having it fit...resizing isnt really a problem conceptually. My Ranger is as tall as I could make him but he can buy armor from the same crafter as someone who chose minimum height.

On the other hand this is too much of a change for GW1. Hopefully something like it will be available in GW2.

I don't think that this would work for every class, but for some classes (as long as the gender is the same) maybe.

For example warriors and paragons could switch and would be one group. Sassis, rangers, and dervs would be the next group. And all the casters would be a group. You could then switch in your group and gender, but not beyond that. However I don't think all armors should be switchable either.
